The inn is just a half hour from Humboldt Redwoods State Park. Everything was run efficiently from start to finish and was very clean, and nothing was broken. The heating and cooling system worked well. My 210 foot "deluxe queen" (room 210) had everything I needed or wanted (except a mini-fridge, which would have made it perfect): bathtub that didn't leak, coffee maker, view of the trees, comfortable bed, adequate storage for toiletires. There was also a luggage rack I could use to help get stuff to my room via the elevator. The inn is also right next to part of Benbow Recreation Area, so after settling in it is easy to do a little stroll to the park or river (where there are picnic tables) before or after dinner or in the morning on a fine day.

This old hotel is a classic, reminiscent of when people stayed in one place for a week or so. It has everything one likes and needs--a restaurant, tons of indoor and outdoor places for relaxing, even a piano; and across the highway at their KOA, I'm told there's a pool. Beyond that, it's close enough to Humboldt Redwoods State Park for experiencing a different hike every day, close to the river (The Eel?) and not terribly far from Prairie Creek State Park. I love the feel of an old classic hotel. Apparently, they have live music often. I suggest definitely staying longer than the one day we did.

Very much like being a celebrity in the 1920’s. Music flowed throughout the hotel and it was all music from the 1920s era. There are no televisions. The huge great room has seating for doing puzzles, for playing games and cards, for just sitting at the large fireplace and engaging with other guests. The large veranda outside has a fire pit and tables scatter throughout overlooking a beautiful landscaped yard and little Creek. Very peaceful and quiet. Would come back.

Our Trout Almondine dinner was excellent - -fresh, tasty, & cooked well done, the way I requested. We had a terrific view of the Eel River from our Room 306 on the 4th floor. And, the desk clerk was so accomodating in getting us a bag of ice to take to our room. Additionally, our room was huge and included a comfortable sofa and desk & chair. Beautiful room and lobby and dining room.

Very nice vibe and a different experience, a nice change in comparison with all the regular modern motels. Lots of vintage furniture and decor around the property. The restaurant patio had a great ambiance during sunset hours, really enjoyed sitting there with a glass of wine. Room was cozy - real wooden windows, wallpaper, etc. I especially liked the bathroom. There were also some specials for guests - afternoon tea, happy hour, but I missed those.
